Dr. Rossi, well known in the herp world for the work he has done
as a vet, and author, was our guest speaker for January.
Dr. Rossi's talk centered around some of the common problems
associated with captive husbandry of herps. Throughout his
talk, which included quite a few great slides showing examples,
he stressed "proper husbandry." He listed several critical
components of environmental correction which included thermal
gradients, substrate, humidity, ventilation, enclosure hygeine,
cage material, and social environment. He illustrated with
slides many of the common problems that can be prevented by
providing the proper care for each species. His talk also
included the mention of a few over the counter medications that
can be applied for simple problems.
